Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig September 21 1983) is an American actress best recognized for her performances as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television series Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Originally from Worthington Ohio, she quit high school to move to Los Angeles with her mother when her parents separated. The year 2001 was a difficult one for her, but despite difficulties with money she managed get her first significant performance in the video online series Rachel's Room as the lead character. The television film Murder in Greenwich, in which she played a 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for the Young Artist Award. Grace Rutherford, a character she played in Lost from 2004 until 2005 was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace wanted to focus on film following her role as Tom Welling's character in The Fog, in 2005. The actress has also appeared as Kim Mills in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club and in 2007 as well as in Taken alongside Liam Neeson in 2008 as Kim Mills. The same character was played by Grace on Taken 2 and Taken 3 (both 2012). Grace reprised the role of Shannon in two episodes of Lost including the series finale. In 2013 she appears in Season 6 of Californication. She plays Faith as a groupie, and also her muse to the stars that catches the interest of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. Part of the Gyllenhaal family she is the daughter of filmmakers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs and the older cousin of the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She started her acting career in the teen years with minor roles in several of her father's films and appeared together with her brother in cult favorite Donnie Darko (2001). Her next appearance was in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in 2002, and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal received critical acclaim for her performance as the main character actress in Secretary (2002) as well as in Sherrybaby (2006), an erotic romance drama drama as well as Sherrybaby (2006). The actress was also nominated for her fellow actors for the Golden Globe Award. She starred in several films that were commercially successful, including World Trade Center. However it was her performance as Rachel Dawes that brought her more attention with The Dark Knight (2008). She received a nomination as the best supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her role of a single mother in Crazy Heart. Then she continued to play in comedies and dramas like Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and The Won't Back Down (12). Apart from her character as a Secret Service agent, she has also appeared as a character in White House Down (2013) as well as Frank (2014). One of her most recent roles include the protagonist in The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal wrote and directed her first film, The Lost Daughter in 2021. The drama about psychological issues won the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. The Lost Daughter was also nominated for the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
